Island Quilts 2021 – Online Exhibition

You are here: Home / Island Quilts / Island Quilts 2021 – Online Exhibition
Welcome to the Tasmanian Quilting Guild’s first online exhibition!

Island Quilts is the annual showcase of the wonderful work of the Tasmanian Quilting Guild and its members. At the heart of this exhibition is the quilts that guild members submit. Our categories embrace everyone, from beginning and amateur quilters through to more advanced and professional quilters. The quilts range from designs that are traditional through to modern and in size from miniature to large. Quilting and piecing techniques may be by hand, by domestic machine, or done on a longarm quilting machine. Obviously, Island Quilts is for everyone!

Unfortunately – but not surprisingly – our exhibition partner Craft Alive was unable to travel to Tasmania to hold the craft show and host our exhibition. However Island Quilts 2021 will still be going ahead although with a changed format. Quilts were still handed in at depots, were judged, were photographed, and prizes awarded at the Evening with the Judges! The exhibition itself is online, and will still include quilt names, descriptions, and the quilters’ names, etc. Viewers will also still be able to vote for their favourite quilt for viewers’ choice!

One of the biggest benefits of an online display is that now our quilts are accessible by more people, who in the past may not have been able to attend the venue due to work commitments, distance, and mobility. It is rewarding to think that we are not missing out on showcasing our quilts to this audience.

What is a quilt?
A quilt must have at least three layers and be visibly quilted through all layers. Quilts may be any shape. A quilt may be hand and/or machine pieced; it may be hand and/or machine quilted. If you are unfamiliar with the other terms used in the exhibition, feel free to review the Island Quilts Handbook 2021.

Sponsors!
Along with our wonderful quilters, Island Quilts would not be what it is without our wonderful sponsors. Being supported by such a wide variety of businesses and organisations not only proves the importance of what we do, but of course sponsors contribute the prizes that help acknowledge the skill and artistry of our award winners. A list of all of our sponsors with their contact details is HERE.

A list of all prize winners, the sponsors that donated the prize, and the recipient is HERE.

Viewer’s Choice
Viewer’s Choice is a special award that is voted on by visitors to the Island Quilts exhibition. If you have visited Island Quilts in the past, each visitor to the exhibition is given a slip of paper to vote for their favourite quilt. After the exhibition, these votes are tallied and a Viewer’s Choice prize winner is announced after the close of the exhibition. In our online exhibition, we didn’t forget to let viewers vote for their favourite quilt!

The Island Quilts Viewer’s Choice Shortlist is now up on the TQG website! The winner will be announced on Saturday 4 December 2021 at our meeting, on Facebook and Instagram, and here on our website.
