What is a modern quilt?! Although this can be hard to define, modern quilts are often inspired by modern design and / or break away from traditional quilting styles to explore what can be made in the quilting medium. Modern quilts might incorporate the use of bold colours and patters, or have high contrast areas of solid colour, or minimalism, or lots of negative space, or be pieced improvisationally. Modern quilts might even update or put a new spin classic quilt designs; this is often called ‘modern traditionalism’.
