Meetings & AGM

You are here: Home / About Us / Meetings & AGM

The Tasmanian Quilting Guild usually holds 4 meetings per year, in March, June, September, and December.  Our September meeting is also our annual general meeting (AGM), and our December meeting is also a Christmas celebration.

Meetings usually open at 10 am for a 10:30 am start. There are tea and coffee making facilities, and unless other catering has been arranged (and when public health measures allow) members bring their own lunch as well as some morning tea to share. We appreciate it if you can bring your own mug.

We have started to introduce themes for each meeting. They may be seasonal, support a technique being discussed, or just what is inspiring us!

One of the most enjoyable parts of our meeting is Show and Tell! We welcome everyone to bring a recent finish, something you haven’t yet shown that you’d love to show off, or a quilt to match the meeting’s theme. We encourage members to stand up proudly with their work and discuss it in a few sentences for the enjoyment of attendees, but if speaking in front of your quilty friends isn’t your thing a member of the committee will be happy to show you quilt. We often also set out show and tell quilts for members to view during the meeting to see those up-close details.

The formal parts of our meetings include reports from officers such as the president, treasurer, vice-president/membership secretary, the Island Quilts convenor, area reps, etc. There might be issues we wish to raise,  something to vote on, or discussion around a TQG related topic.

The informal parts of our meetings are just as important as there are quilters from all over the state gathered and ready to socialise! We strongly encourage mixing, getting to know people from other parts of the state, and sharing.

We also have traders at our meetings! Our local quilt shops support our quilting community, and we need to support them! When thinking of adding to your stash, remember to check our your Tasmanian quilt shops.

Our annual general meeting (AGM) usually takes place at the September meeting. We hear annual reports from outgoing committee members and vote in the new committee! Please read our Constitution for a more detailed understanding of how this process takes place.
